John's Last Public Performance with The Who

This very distinctive  Status Series 1 Buzzard bass has one gold tuning key and three black ones along with 4 chrome tuning knobs instead of five (One is a dual input selector). This is the only one ever produced for John with the one gold key and was played extensively with The Who and John Entwistle Band from 1997 to 2002. In addition, John is seen here wearing the Skeleton guitar strap with this bass. At other times he would alternate with the Buzzard strap. This was one of John's favorite basses and can also be seen on the Royal Albert Hall DVD of 2000 on the song 5:15.

This 1962 Fender Precision Bass was one of John's earliest basses. It can be seen in many early photos of the time. Originally sunburst in color, John had it refinished white sometime around February of 1966. This bass is distinctive in that it has the Rosewood fret board and the tortoise shell pick guard.  This bass came with a letter from John stating that it was from his collection and that he had it refinished white.

Here is a great shot of John with this bass before he had it refinished white.

These two Bass guitars are from John Entwistle's personal collection that he sold at auction in April of 1988.The one on the top is a Peter Cook customized Bass. This was the highest priced Bass of all the ones that John sold fetching approximately 33,000 Dollars. John stated in the catalog that this was used on the U.K. Television show Top of the Pops in the early 1970's. The one on the Bottom  is an Alembic bass guitar that was used on stage in 1975 and 1976. This was John's second Alembic that he bought.

John's Last Public Performance with The Who

This very distinctive  Status Series 1 Buzzard bass has one gold tuning key and three black ones along with 4 chrome pots (potentiometers) instead of five (One is a dual input selector). This was lot 112 of the John Entwistle sale at Sotheby's.

These two custom made straps were made by Fosters leather in 1999 from ideas supplied by John. The skeleton arm was copied from a skeleton in John's house. The Buzzard strap is full of little Whoisms including a spider and of course the buzzards. John's head can be seen peeking over the end of the strap on the right.  Both straps can be seen used extensively in concert from 1999-2002 on the bass above as well as others.

This is John's last stage rig that he used with The Who and the John Entwistle Band. The cabinets were delivered to John just prior to the band's performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2000. The rest of the rig is a consolidation of his preferred outboard gear and amps at the time. This exact rig was used on the 2000 Who tour as well as John's last tour with the John Entwistle Band. It was also used on the Japanese tour known as "A Walk Down Abbey Road" with Todd Rundgren, Nancy Wilson and Alan Parsons. This rig consists of:
